Background Information

Ghana Statistical Service will be organising its sixth post-independence decennial Population and Housing Census (PHC) in 2020. The PHC is the largest field operation in the national data collection effort.  Substantial effort is required to ensure that the extensive activities of the PHC are wellcoordinated and timely implemented with the cooperation of all stakeholders, including public institutions, households and individuals across the regions and districts of the country. 

The Data Collection Officer will be responsible for ensuring complete coverage, collection of quality data, and adhere to professional and ethical practices in data collection.

GSS therefore, invites interested persons who are goal-oriented, resultsdriven, possess leadership qualities and are well known and respected within their districts, to apply online for the position of Data Collection Officer.


i. Identify boundaries of the assigned Enumeration/Supervisory Areas (EAs/SA) with the aid of maps

ii. List all structures and enumerate all persons in the EA

iii. Obtain complete and accurate responses from respondents and capture them correctly during the enumeration exercise  

iv. Report daily progress of work to assigned superiors

v. Sync data daily to assigned superior

vi. Ensure security of all census materials and equipment and account for same  

vii. Support publicity of the census exercise in the area of placement for field work and

viii. Any other duties assigned to the data collection officer

Key Competencies/Experience

i. Good communication skills

ii. Ability to use smartphones or tablets for data collection  

iii. Self-motivated with fervent commitment to duty

iv. Fluent in a local language of the District of interest for field work


A minimum of WASSCE/SSSCE or it’s equivalent


i. Residential address including digital address  
ii. Employment status and experience (if any)
iii. Age, sex, nationality
iv. National ID (passport, driving license, voters ID or national/ ecowas ID)
v. Personal and emergency contact person’s phone numbers  
vi. Email address
vii. Most recent digital or electronic passport size picture with white background (at most three months old)
viii. District of interest for field data collection
ix. School certificate ID number
